Reported Celtic target Vaclav Hladky has been speaking about the club’s interest in him this summer.

Back in May, the Sunday Post linked the Hoops and our rivals across the city with an interest in the former St. Mirren man.

They claimed Celtic were “admirers” of the Czech keeper – while our vacancy in the goalkeeping position at that stage helped to increase the rumours.

We had lost Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon from last season’s squad and not yet brought in Vasilis Barkas.

And Hladky – who now plays for Salford City – says he was “unlucky” that both Glasgow sides went for other options.

“There were many opportunities from Scotland and from abroad as well,” he told the Express and Star.

“If we talk about these two big clubs, obviously it’s a great opportunity to go there.

“I mean, I was between probably two or three goalies but unlucky for me they picked someone else.

“Then I have to move forward, thinking what’s going to happen now or what was going to happen then and make another decision.”

Hladky could have been a good back-up for Celtic

It sounds like Hladky would certainly have jumped at the chance to come to Parkhead.

Sadly for him, our “other” option was Barkas – who we paid a reported £4.5million for. (Scottish Sun)

Whether Hladky would have come in as a back-up keeper is an altogether different issue.

We are still one down on last season and, despite having Scott Bain around, Neil Lennon may feel he wants another keeper in the building.

Hladky would have been a pretty good number two. Sadly it wasn’t to be.
