Vakoun Bayo could be missing a big Celtic opportunity with Toulouse wish
The future of Vakoun Bayo at Celtic is currently in the air.
Toulouse president Damien Comolli has stated that the Ligue 2 club have put an offer in for the Ivorian. He also claims that Bayo wants to leave Parkhead to return to the club he spent on loan last season [Daily Record].
You can see the attraction. It’s a step up from his previous club, Dunajska Streda. Toulouse believe in him and he was coming into form in the second half of the campaign. He may very well view Toulouse as an opportunity to progress into Ligue 1 and really boost the profile of his career.
However, at the same time, Bayo may not be understanding the true nature of the opportunity available to him. Firstly, a new manager coming is a chance for a clean slate for everyone. A chance for every player in the squad to show what they’re all about.
Surely, given he’d scored 10 goals since January for Toulouse, Bayo should be backing himself to be making an impact here. Especially given the striker crisis we currently seem to have at the football club.
Vakoun Bayo could rue Celtic departure if he leaves for Toulouse
Many will point to the idea that Bayo isn’t the kind of striker Ange Postecoglou prefers. Perhaps not, given he’s more of a target-man and a player used for a more direct approach. But every manager needs a plan B, and Bayo could provide that option. Considering he was also bought for £2m, a return would be welcome [Glasgow Times].
Celtic are likely going to sell Odsonne Edouard this summer. Patryk Klimala is already gone. That’s two strikers who were ahead of Bayo last season. All of a sudden an opportunity opens up for him in pre-season.
But it was only ever going to work if the Ivorian himself wanted it to do so. He had to back himself to be successful and look to thrive on the opportunity that the arrival of Postecoglou brings.
It could be the case that the player has a change of heart of course. There remains time for him to see that he does have a chance to make an impression here. It’s not a case of him just arriving at Lennoxtown and being sent out the door as quick as he came through it. This is a pre-season full of opportunity.
And below, we take a look at what the fans think of the idea of Bayo wanting away:
Feel like he’s gonna be a what if for us now as he has the talent but not maybe the striker that suits the Celtic playing style 🤔 https://t.co/Z864qo2TIQ

Another one unlucky not to get a proper chance in the team but it is what it is 👎
We'l be lucky to field an 11 at this point if we don't get the finger out and get players in the door 🙃 https://t.co/RNg8YevY37

I seen him get his foot tangled in the net after kicking in frustration (he missed a sitter). It wasn’t the actions of a dynamic, goalscoring athlete. Still, I hope he does well, wherever he ends up.

Another waste of money, was never good enough for us to sign him in the first place. File under Klimala etc…
