There is some confusion about the status of Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo. The Scottish Sun has reported that the player has been called up for the Ivory Coast under-23 squad for their games in the under-23 African Cup of Nations.
That tournament takes places later this month. Normally that would be a tad annoying for the Hoops, as the player would miss some domestic fixtures.
Player may need an operation
However, what has made the situation confusing is that Neil Lennon recently claimed that the player may need an operation and could be out of action for up to six weeks.
If Bayo is going to miss six weeks of action, then obviously he would miss the tournament he has been selected for. Hopefully the situation is clearer up sooner rather than later.
A frustrating season for attacker
It has been a frustrating season for Bayo. He has been restricted to few apperances for the Hoops. The reason for that has been the great form of Odsonne Edouard.
Should he miss six weeks of action, that will only add to his frustration. The timing of the player’s injury isn’t great either, as it means that Celtic currently only have one fit striker. That player is the aforementioned Odsonne Edouard.
Perhaps the only positive aspect about the situation is that maybe Bayo’s injury isn’t as serious as first thought. That could be why he has been given the international call-up. Should he pull out of the tournament though, then it will confirm that the player is set to miss some game time for the Hoops.
