Every Celtic supporter would’ve been ready for Vakoun Issouf Bayo’s debut last night.

The big Ivorian was seen stripped and getting ready to come on for his first appearance at Celtic. Unfortunately, however, a nasty challenge from Hibernian’s Darnell Johnson on Emilio Izaguirre ended any hope of that.

Instead, it was make-shift left-back Jonny Hayes that came onto the pitch and took the final substitute spot of the night. It was an extremely unfortunate scenario for Bayo, who simply waved to the fans as he sat back down.

And the big striker has also reacted on Instagram – showing his delight at the three points.

Rodgers confirms he’ll get his chance

It was unfortunate for Bayo, but not something to worry about.

Brendan Rodgers told Celtic TV after the match that the striker will get his chance in the future. And whilst there’s no confirmation he’ll make an appearance on Sunday, it surely won’t be long before we see him in action.

Bayo, of course, was a £2million signing from Dunajska Streda in January. He’s the only permanent signing made during the January window that’s staying at the club. Andrew Gutman will head back out on loan according to Chris Davies, whilst Manny Perez is already away to North Carolina FC until the end of the season.

The form of both Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke will be difficult to displace from the first-team. But Bayo hasn’t yet be seen by the supporters, and could add something different.

John Kennedy has already spoken about his aerial threat. That’s something Celtic don’t particularly have up top, and their lack of goals from corner-kicks proves that.

It will be interesting to see first-hand what Bayo can offer the team. But it’s good to see the big striker isn’t too disheartened at not coming on last night.
