Brendan Rodgers has appeared on camera for the first time during his second spell as Celtic manager, sending a message to the supporters ahead of his unveiling on Friday.
Rodgers was announced as the successor to Ange Postecoglou earlier this week but tomorrow will be his first major media event, facing broadcast journalists and fan representatives.
Tonight, the club have published a short message from the manager to the Celtic fans, teasing a longer video to come on official social media channels later. You can see it embedded above, or via this link.
Rodgers said: “Hi, it’s Brendan here. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support that I’ve had since I’ve been the manager here again at Celtic.
“I’m very proud and honoured to be given the opportunity. Hopefully, I can repay the faith of Dermot and the board, for accepting me back to the club. But also very, very importantly, to you the supporters.
“Celtic Football Club is about the supporters and I hope I can come back to make you proud and also very importantly to make you dream again. We did that in our first time together. Hopefully going forward we can dream again.
“I’m really looking forward to it and being together as one from the very first day of the season. Let’s make this a memorable season for us all. Take care, and hail, hail!”
It’ll be interesting to hear what subjects the club go into with Rodgers in the interview later tonight. Will his exit to Leicester be addressed, will we here about more summer transfers, will he talk about Ange’s time here?
Some of that might be left until tomorrow’s media event, but it should be intriguing all the same. The message stressed, of course, will all be about the future.
Rodgers says he wants to make the fans dream – everyone can get on board with that if we see signs of progress this summer, regardless of what’s gone on before.
