Former Celtic kid Karamoko Dembele is starting to make his mark at Blackpool after a big week that included his first league start for the club, an assist and a weekend goal.

Dembele signed on loan in English League One during the summer transfer window after a season of mostly off-the-bench performances for French club Brest.

Still just 20, the young attacker showed off his skills against Charlton Athletic on Saturday. After coming off the bench in the second half, he pick-pocketed Michael Hector before racing through on goal and slamming the ball in off the bar to put his side 2-0 up in the match.

They would go on to draw 2-2, but it was an encouraging sign for Dembele that he can be effective in League One this season. You can see a video of the effort via Blackpool’s official social media page, or embedded below.

The goal for Blackpool was only the second of his senior career so far, with his last coming against St Johnstone in a closed-doors Celtic Park game back in 2021.

The effort comes off the back of his first League One start last mid-week at home to Derby, where he registered his first assist for the club in a 3-1 defeat.

Given the hype surrounding Dembele during his teenage years at Celtic, some fans will likely always keep close tabs on his career. Although it didn’t work out for him in Glasgow, nobody should begrudge him successful spells elsewhere.

If he can get a consistent run of appearances in England, it will serve him well.

He’s still young enough to improve and has that natural talent that marked him out as so exciting coming through the Lennoxtown set-up.
