Ange Postecoglou has given his first video interview from Celtic’s training centre in Lennoxtown.

Some of the quotes were reported yesterday; foremost his opinions on Zoom, his trip to Glasgow and his thoughts on the west coast weather. However, there were some new nuggets of real interest for Celtic fans, foremost his applause for Scotland star Callum McGregor.

McGregor, surely the next Celtic captain, was described as “outstanding” by the new Hoops manager. Postecoglou told Celtic TV:

“Callum was outstanding. I watched the England v Scotland game live, and he was great that night. He put in another great performance the other night.

“I think all the lads will have had a real positive experience, I know it didn’t end up fantastic. But just being part of a major tournament, I know they would come away with that full of confidence.

“They need a little bit of a break now, but I can’t wait to get them back here.

“Physically and emotionally they’ve been on a bit of a rollercoaster.

“I’m sure as soon as they’re ready to come back in… they’ll be as enthusiastic as anyone to get going.”

Ange Postecoglou will be needing Celtic’s Scotland stars firing on all cylinders

As we’ve already said, Postecoglou will be breathing a bit easier knowing his Scottish players can get some much needed rest ahead of pre-season. While a considerable international contingent, and players who weren’t selected for the Euros will be looking to impress, those selected for Euro 2020 represent the real core of the team.

From Greg Taylor to James Forrest, via McGregor, the spine of the current squad is littered with talents that took Scotland to their first major finals in 23 years. And it bodes incredibly well that Postecoglou has been watching them, and is enthusiastic to use their abilities.

For Postecoglou’s part, it’s another excellent interview. He comes across as direct, but equally full of praise where it’s sorely needed. If he’s able to inspire the players like he has sections of the support, we could be onto something really special here.
