Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo has left absolutely no doubt:
He’s claiming the assist for Hyunjun Yang’s goal against Motherwell.
The dubious goals panel may have some bad news for the Celtic goalkeeper, though, as Elliot Watt’s miscued header looks to have prevented Sinisalo from being credited for the goal.
Assists don’t come along every week for goalkeepers, however, as Sinisalo is well aware.
Should Viljami Sinisalo be the long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel?
Viljami Sinisalo claims assist for Celtic goal vs Motherwell
When the Finnish international was asked by Celtic TV if he was taking the assist he said: “I’ll be claiming that, yeah.
“To be fair, Yang does all the hard work for me there. It’s not about me. He does really well to take it and finish it really well, to be fair to him, on his weaker side.

“So all credit to him, not necessarily about me… but I’ll be claiming that. That’s the first of my career!”
On the approaching season finale, Sinisalo said: “We’re all looking forward to it. It’s been a hectic four months.
“A lot of things have happened, a lot of games, not many free midweeks. So yeah, we need to get through this other week and take three points.
“And then people go away on international duty and some of the lads will probably have a few days off, then we come back refocused and go again.
“But the main thing is this weekend, and I’m sure everyone will be absolutely one hundred percent ready for this.”
Since being thrown into Celtic’s second leg against Stuttgart by Martin O’Neill, Sinisalo has retained his spot in goal amid a period of injury turmoil for Kasper Schmeichel.
The 24-year-old has earned plaudits for his performances, however, and the rest of the season now stands as a golden opportunity for him to audition as the Hoops’ number one goalkeeper.
Utterly devastating for Kasper, your thoughts, Celtic fans…
Stay strong, Kasper!
The career of Celtic’s Viljami Sinisalo
Sinisalo moved from Finnish youth football to Aston Villa in 2018 before gaining experience through various loan spells.
During his time at Ayr United, he notably played alongside Luke McCowan and has since earned six caps for the Finland national team.
His career truly took off at Exeter City, where his impressive 45 appearances earned him a spot in the League One Team of the Season.
Now at Celtic, he has made 18 appearances in 20 months, mostly spent as Schmeichel’s understudy. He initially deputised for the Dane after he first sustained his shoulder injury last season.
