New Celtic signing, Viljami Sinisalo, has detailed his long-term ambition for the club after making his Parkhead move this summer.

The £1m signing from Aston Villa was brought to Celtic as an understudy for Kasper Schmeichel who put pen to paper on a one-year deal this week as well.

Both ‘keepers have been drafted in after the retirement of Joe Hart and it seems, after hearing what Vinisalo has said about Schmeichel, that Rodgers has made two very shrewd signings for Celtic this week.

Sinisalo ‘based’ his style on Schmeichel

At just 22, Sinisalo is still raw in goalkeeping terms whereas Schmeichel is a hardened veteran with plenty of experience in the game at 37.

The young Finland international is set to learn from the big Dane in the upcoming season, it seems that Rodgers could not have picked a better teacher after Sinisalo admits he has looked up to Schmeichel ‘massively’ over the course if his career.

Sinisalo said [Daily Record], “Listen, I’m here to win as much as I can. I’ve said that before. I want to play. I want to be Celtic’s No.1 and that’s what we’re here for.

“There is a long-term plan. I signed a five-year contract and I’ll do my best to make sure I’m Celtic’s No.1 as soon as I can. That’s my goal.

“I want to play at Celtic Park every weekend and in Europe. If that takes six months, a year or two years, I’ll be ready for that moment.

“Kasper’s someone I’ve looked up to massively. I’ve based my goalkeeping style on him.”

Sinisalo had a great season on loan at Exeter City last year and he will be hoping to take that form into his new career at Celtic.

With Schmeichel set to become Celtic’s first-choice number one, the youngster may have to bide his time on the sidelines for now.

But it seems that that won’t matter to the youngster because what he will learn from someone he hugely respects on the training ground will be just as important as any lessons he will experience in the first team.

And the way young Sinisalo speaks about his ambition at Celtic, I reckon he’s not just here to learn from Schmeichel, he’s also gunning for his place in the team which will only benefit Rodgers heading into the new season.
