Watch: Celtic loanee Marian Shved becomes second top goalscorer in Ukraine

Celtic loanee Marian Shved is continuing to light things up back in his homeland of Ukraine.

Just a day after being voted Ukraine’s Player of the Month, the right-winger became the second top goalscorer in the league. That’s despite playing predominantly most of the time down the right flank.

He took his place as second in yesterday’s 4-0 mauling of Vorskla for Karpaty Lviv. He bagged goals number two and three to take his tally for the season up to 11 goals in 20 appearances. He’s ahead of the likes of Marlos and Viktor Tsyganov of Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv respectively.

Only Junior Moraes sits ahead of him on 16 goals. But it’s important to bear in mind that Shved isn’t an out-and-out striker.

You can view his goals here, in a goal video of yesterday’s 4-0 rout. Karpaty Lviv now sit ninth in the table after the Ukrainian League’s annual split. Shved won’t face the likes of Kyiv or Donetsk again this season. The league takes a similar twist to the Scottish Premiership’s top-six and bottom six split.

Should be targeting a first-team slot when he arrives

Finally, this looks like some solid competition for James Forrest. It’s been too long since the Scotland international has been properly challenged for his position. Shved, meanwhile, looks like a man that could push him.

Oliver Burke arrived in January but hasn’t been rivaling Forrest down the right. Instead, he’s been morphed into a striker – something which you could argue isn’t helping his game-time.

Timothy Weah is also capable of competing down the right. But, despite that, he was also brought in with a view to playing up top, even if he’s started just twice since January.

Shved himself even looks capable of featuring through the middle. When he arrives in the summer, he looks like he could be a candidate for a number of positions. But there has to be some solid competition for derby hero Forrest.

Karpaty have at least 10 games remaining in their campaign. This includes a Ukrainian Cup quarter-final tie against Inhulets’. It’ll be interesting to see what stats Shved has racked up before arriving back at Parkhead. At the moment, however, he’s on fire.
