Any Celtic fans who keep note of how the team’s loan players are doing can’t have failed to notice the progress made by Jonathan Afolabi at Dunfermline.

The Hoops striker, who moved to the Pars in January, has scored two goals in five games for the Championship side.

His most recent goal came in the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Queen of the South. You can watch the goal, which came from the penalty spot, below.

It shows a lot about Afolabi’s character as a player that he was willing to take the penalty, and indeed score with some aplomb.

First-team football can only benefit player

You would imagine that he will be an ever-present in the Dunfermline side between now and the end of the season, and that can only benefit Afolabi going forward.

It will do him a power of good to play regular football, rather than playing for Celtic’s academy side. Afolabi will be looking to add to his goal tally on Tuesday night, when Partick Thistle take on Dunfermline.

In that game Afolabi could be coming up against another Celtic loanee, as Lee O’Connor has featured regularly for the Maryhill side.

All player can do is look to find the back of the net

With Celtic struggling to find strikers who can score goals – aside from Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard – all Afolabi can do is aim to score more goals between now and the end of the season.

If he is able to score five more goals this season that will be an excellent return. There would no doubt be a demand from some Celtic fans to give the player a chance in the first-team.

Only time will tell on that front, but Celtic fans should continue to monitor Afolabi’s progress, as he looks to be a player with a big future, one which is hopefully with the Hoops.

Just how far can Afolabi go in the game? Will he get his chance at Celtic next season? Share your thoughts below with a comment in our new discussion forum…
