Celtic’s 2-1 win over Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday is one of the Hoops’ biggest results in many years. The fact that it was Celtic’s first ever win in Rome, it booked a place in the last 32 of the tournament and the timing of Olivier Ntcham’s last minute all contributed to a great night for the Hoops.
Celtic legend thrilled by winning goal
One person who seemed very excited by the winning goal was Celtic legend Chris Sutton. He shouted in delighted when Ntcham’s effort found the back of the net, whilst commentating on the game for BT Sport.
You can watch Sutton’s reaction for yourself below:

Sutton’s reaction was understandable. He was part of some great Celtic teams in the past who failed to win in Italy. Indeed, a team he played in, in 2001 came close to a great result in Italy but were defeated 3-2 by Juventus.
Current Hoops side have come on leaps and bounds
However, this current Celtic side have taken a huge step forward with this win in Italy. They have proved that they belong in the last 32 of the Europa League, and could perhaps go far in the competition.
It is a scenario few would have expected when the Hoops lost 4-3 to Cluj in the Champions League qualifiers back in August.
However, in Europe, Celtic have improved rapidly since then. Still, a famous win in Italy is not something to take for granted. That is why Sutton’s impassioned reaction to Celtic’s winning goal was so understandable.
