Liam Burt might have been one of Celtic’s most unexpected signings of the summer. The reason for that; the midfielder had been released by Glasgow rivals Rangers on a free transfer at the end of last season.
Still, that didn’t stop the Hoops from signing the player, and so far he seems to be settling in well to life with the Scottish Champions.
This was shown when he found the back of the net for the Hoops Reserves in Tuesday night’s City of Glasgow Cup 3-0 win over Queen’s Park, the highlights of which have just been uploaded to Celtic’s YouTube channel.
Burt’s strike was actually Celtic’s third and final goal, as he ran on to a Daniel Church pass and slid the ball into the back of the net.
A goal that Hoops first-team regular would be proud of
It was a goal that Callum McGregor would have been proud to score, so well did he run onto the ball and take the effort in his stride.
As yet Burt has yet to make his breakthrough to the Hoops first-team. However, should he keep scoring goals like that for the Reserve side, then he will certainly catch Neil Lennon’s eye.

The other goals for the Hoops were scored by Kieran McGrath, who took advantage of a defensive error to score into an empty net, and a player who has featured for the first-team this season, Stephen Welsh.
Teammate scored bullet header
Welsh, who started for the first-team in the 4-1 win over Hamilton earlier this year, gave the Hoops the lead against Clyde with a bullet header.

It will be interesting to see if Welsh makes another first-team appearance for the Hoops this season, perhaps he will after the Hoops wrap up nine in a row.
Still, it is good to see the Reserve side achieve such a comfortable win, hopefully a few more will follow between now and the end of the season.
