Martin O’Neill looks like he is getting more and more frustrated as this transfer window nears its end for the Celtic manager.
Only one player has been added to the squad, and as Celtic’s win over Auchinleck Talbot showed, O’Neill badly needs reinforcements.
O’Neill cut a frustrated figure in his post-match Scottish Cup interview and was once again asked about any transfer deals being in the pipeline for the Parkhead club.
And the Celtic manager’s answer had Neil Lennon in knots as O’Neill took a subtle dig at the board over the movement of getting players in the door.
Do you agree with Neil Lennon?
Martin O’Neill will ‘hopefully’ have players at Celtic ‘before the end of the season
The Celtic boss was asked on Premier Sports about upcoming transfers and the possibility of getting deals done this week.
And as Connie McLaughlin acknowledged that O’Neill dreaded this question, the Northern Irishman replied, “You are right, I do dread this question.
“We are making some progress and hopefully, we will get some players in before the end of the season.”
That reply had Neil Lennon in stitches as O’Neill clarified, “I’m only kidding.”
O’Neill may say he was kidding, but the Celtic manager’s demeanour certainly seemed to suggest otherwise.
What Neil Lennon said about Celtic’s transfer business
Lennon had his own view on whether he believed Celtic would get O’Neill the players he so badly needs.
Speaking after the Scottish Cup tie, the former Celtic boss said, “I think Martin needs players in, and I think he will push for that. I wouldn’t say demand it, but he has made it clear what he wants from the board.
“They will be his players, not Paul Tisdale’s and not Wilfried Nancy’s, because that has had to change since Martin came in.
“Now he’s going to bring in players, whether that’s loans or signings, to get Celtic over the line for the season.”
