Another week and another Celtic performance is overshadowed by a contentious refereeing decision in the win over Motherwell.
Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic earned a 3-0 win after a stuttering start in Motherwell where The Steelmen hit the woodwork twice early on in the first half.
However, as soon as the Hoops found the opener, Celtic cruised to a 3-0 win where stand-in captain Alistair Johnston and Adam Iday helped seal the three points.
But it was the decision not to award Celtic a penalty in the first half that irked Neil Lennon as the former Hoops boss reacted to James McFadden’s verdict on Stephen O’Donnell’s challenge on Daizen Maeda.
Neil Lennon tells McFadden Celtic ‘should’ have had a penalty vs Motherwell
McFadden told Sky Sports, “I’m not sure. I think it’s tough to see just how much contact there is.
“Stephen O’Donnell is running and he doesn’t deviate from where his target is and Maeda runs into him and gets there before O’Donnell. I think if the referee awards a penalty kick, it’s not being overturned.
“I don’t think there is enough in that to tell the referee 100% that’s a penalty kick. It’s the right decision to chop the goal off because it’s handball into the back of the net.
“I just don’t know if there’s enough it’s not my Mothwell bias, I just don’t know if there’s enough to overturn it. I’m not sure.”
Lennon replied, “I just think Maeda’s running at speed. Stephen comes across him and bumps him, he’s taking a touch, and he’s scoring.
“He comes across him and for me, it should have been given as a penalty.”
Lennon really wasn’t having McFadden trying to butt in and claim Maeda was at fault and it’s great to see him stick up for Celtic on the Sky Sports platform.
Celtic now back in the Scottish Premiership driving seat after beating Motherwell
Celtic’s win over Motherwell puts Brendan Rodgers’ team firmly in the driving seat at the top of the Scottish Premiership table heading into the Wednesday night fixture card.

Jimmy Thelin passed his Celtic test last weekend as Aberdeen earned a 2-2 draw at Parkhead and now it’s time to see how The Dons perform against the blue half of Glasgow.
Should Thelin mastermind a win over Rangers it would put Aberdeen nine points ahead of the Ibrox club and pile more pressure on Philippe Clement just before the international break.
The title race is really starting to shape up and it seems that the Celtic fans are in for another exciting week as the Bhoys look to defend their crown.
