Reported Celtic target Siriki Dembele produced a moment of magic yesterday to seal a vital 2-1 win for Peterborough United against Derby County yesterday.

Dembele has been mooted for a move from Peterborough all summer. With his contract entering its final 12 months, a move has seemed inevitable throughout the window. It was reported last month that Dembele wanted to move to Scotland, with Celtic and Rangers linked [Peterborough Today].

Yet despite what’s been a frustrating summer saga, Dembele remains with the Championship. And, unsurprisingly, he started the first league game of the season on the bench against Derby yesterday.

The tricky attacker would eventually come on with less than half an hour to go. However, it would take until the 100th minute for him to down Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney’s side. You can watch the video of the dramatic winner below:

The attacker shows superb control to find himself some space to get the shot away. However, the main talking point here is the finish itself – a rocket into the bottom left-hand corner that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

Siriki Dembele doesn’t appear ready to force through a move despite Celtic interest

It’s been reported by the Sun that Dembele would cost interested clubs around £4m. After the striker bagged 12 goals and 12 assists last season, that money looks like a snip [Transfermarkt].

Not least because the player can play in a variety of positions. Despite generally performing at his peak as a striker, Dembele can play as a number 10 or on the left flank. The latter is something Celtic have a problem with given Mohamed Elyounoussi has yet to be replaced.

However, a deal for Dembele doesn’t look imminent. Peterborough have been determined to hold onto their key asset all summer. Director of Football Barry Fry has consistently stated he could remain with the second-tier side [Peterborough Today].

Goals such as yesterday won’t see the level of interest in him decrease. But it could add something to the player’s valuation. Especially given Dembele comes across as satisfied at Peterborough.

There are no signs of the striker looking to force through a move. Likewise, there’s a lack of urgency from Celtic in getting this one done. From the outside anyway. And with links to £7m-rated Thomas Henry appearing last week [Daily Record], we may have moved on to other targets.

But yesterday proved Dembele should still have tabs kept on him. As soon as he becomes available, Celtic should still be sniffing.
