Celtic loanee Jack Hendry suffered a shocking challenge in KV Oostende’s match against Standard Liege on Saturday.
Oostende recorded a superb 6-2 win against their Belgian rivals, with the visitors down to 10 men for 40 minutes. That red card came for an utterly ridiculous challenge on on-loan Celtic defender Hendry from Mehdi Carcela.
The challenge, and we use that term loosely, ended up with Jack needing to be subbed off for the final half-hour. As of yet, there’s still to be any update on when Hendry will return to action or how severe the injury is.
But one look at it and it’s clear that it was a potential leg-breaker. Take a look at the video below to get a glimpse of it yourself:

Jack Hendry will be looking for a strong end to the season before Celtic return
Any length of time out will be a blow for Hendry. His main goal now will be to finish the season strongly with Oostende and put himself in the shop window. Either that or impress the next Celtic manager ahead of the summer.
Saturday was just another example of how good a season Hendry is having. He wasn’t on the park for all of it, but his side had built up a 3-2 lead against Europa League group-stage outfit Liege.
The result puts Oostende top of their Europa League playoff group ahead of next weekend’s clash against Mechelen. That match will likely involve a certain Marian Shved, and the prospect of both players going up against each other is certainly intriguing.
But that will only happen if Hendry can overcome what was a horrendous challenge. That it only resulted in a second yellow and not a straight red is eyebrow-raising too. It was clearly dangerous or reckless play – whatever you want to call it.
All we can do now is hope Jack is back from injury ASAP. He’ll view it as essential if he wants to bag a future at Parkhead for next season.
