Odin Thiago Holm made his competitive debut for Celtic on Saturday and is hoping to become a firm fixture in Brendan Rodgers matchday squad moving forward.

Holm has impressed supporters in the fleeting glimpses we’ve seen of him so far. He was particularly good in the second half against Athletic Club.

The Norwegian talent is well aware of his compatriots that have performed at Celtic in the past, such as Kristoffer Ajer and Stefan Johansen. He now looks to take inspiration from their precedent to become the latest celebrated star from the country.

Holm said [Sunday Mail 06/08 print edition]: “Hopefully I can have a similar impact to what Ajer and Johansen had at Celtic. We all have the same agent and they’ve had positive things to say about Celtic. That’s why I knew this was the right move for me.

“Ajer was a young player like me when he came here. He’s an inspiration in terms of what can be achieved. Anything is possible here, if you get the time you need. If I’m patient I can do well.

“Hopefully I can get into the Norway squad. If I perform for Celtic, I’ ll probably get spoken about more and be mentioned for the national team.”

There’s a talented midfield ahead of Holm so getting regular starts will be tricky for him. Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and David Turnbull are all currently in place as options.

Nonetheless, Celtic will have a busy schedule in multiple competitions over the next few months so Holm should get the minutes that help his development and confidence. There’s plenty of football to get stuck into and Rodgers has already shown the new signing can be involved.

If he has as good a Celtic career as Ajer and Johansen did, then he’ll have turned out to be a very fine signing indeed.
