‘We will see’… Brendan Rodgers gives decisive answer to rumours involving Celtic’s Liel Abada

Celtic need to produce a united front in their quest to win a third successive league title, and there is no room for distractions.

Nevertheless, Liel Abada finds himself in a delicate situation at present due to off-field issues, which have left the Israel international with an uncertain future at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers left the 22-year-old out of his Scottish Cup squad against St Mirren earlier this month due to the winger not being in the ‘right frame of mind’ to take part, and he hasn’t returned to the fold since.

According to reports in his homeland, Major League Soccer clubs have expressed an interest in offering the Petah Tikva-born man an escape route from Parkhead.

Atlanta United and Austin FC have been widely reported as two keen suitors for Abada, with talks believed to have already taken place with his agent.

There have also been suggestions that he no longer wants to be considered for the Hoops’ matchday squad; however, it remains to be seen whether claims from elsewhere are correct.

Realistically, a clean break between Celtic and Abada may be an ideal resolution for both parties if he isn’t able to play a part during the rest of the campaign.

Brendan Rodgers discusses Liel Abada’s Celtic future

Rodgers has been fairly honest in his assessment of Abada’s future and has fielded questions surrounding the winger in an appropriate manner, given the complexity of his situation.

Once again, the Irishman was pressed on reports that he may be set to move on in his most recent press conference, offering some clarity on his standing at Parkhead.

He stated when asked about if there has been progress towards Abada leaving the club [Celtic FC YouTube]: “No. No update on that. He is still in the same situation; it’s difficult for him.

“But yeah, we will see if there’s a resolution to that.”

Later on, Rodgers then swatted aside the notion that the player could rip up his Celtic contract to force through a move, simply adding: “I haven’t heard that, no.”

Liel Abada and Celtic should part ways at this point

Abada has been a talented asset for Celtic, putting up an impressive 29 goals and 22 assists in 112 appearances for the club [Transfermarkt].

Despite this, things only seem to be moving in one direction, which may lead to both parties deciding to shake hands and move on before too long.

Whether he stays on until the summer or is in the frame for a departure mid-way through the second half of the season, it makes sense for him to move on if he isn’t featuring at all.
