It was interesting to see how two Celtic loanees were treated recently in the game against Aberdeen. Timothy Weah made an appearance in the second-half of the game, albeit with the Hoops already in control of the match.

Whereas Filip Benkovic wasn’t selected for the game, with Jozo Simunovic preferred, and he didn’t get off the bench either.

Could be a clue

The contrast could give a clue to how often each player is featured in the coming weeks. Weah seems certain to get a game at least off the bench in the weeks ahead. He has featured regularly for the Hoops, and Neil Lennon seems to rate him.

There’s no doubt that Lennon rates Benkovic too, but his chances of featuring might not be as clear cut. He didn’t feature at all against Aberdeen, and has been on the bench most weeks since his return from injury.

Perhaps player could return

Perhaps this is an indication that the club feel that Weah could return to Celtic on loan next season. Whilst it seems there is little to no chance of Benkovic returning.

That makes sense, as there is no real point in featuring players who will not be at the club next summer. Where that leaves fellow loanee Oliver Burke remains to be seen, as he is currently injured.

However, in the weeks to come, it would not be a shock to see Weah and Benkovic go in different directions in their Celtic careers.
