Neil Lennon recently held a press conference ahead of Celtic’s pre-season friendly against Rennes on Saturday. Unsurprisingly, transfers were a subject of conversation.
The subject of right-backs came up, as it is a position that Celtic badly need to make signings in. Lennon has admitted this. As a result, he has disclosed that ideally he would like to sign two right-backs this summer.
“The quality of the player is important” Lennon said whilst discussing right-backs, on a video appearing on Celtic’s YouTube channel.
“We’re looking for one”
“We’re looking for one for quite a serious period of time now. Ideally we’d like to bring two in.”
It has to be said, Celtic have been trying to sign a right-back to replace the departed Mikael Lustig. They have been linked with a number of players for the position.
Previous targets have moved on
Most recently Sheffield United’s George Baldock was linked with the Hoops. Previous targets like Jack Stacey and Tommy Smith have moved on to new clubs.
Therefore, until the position is filled Neil Lennon will continue to be asked about the situation. Celtic fans will be eager for the Hoops to get a right-back in as soon as possible.
Obviously the players that are brought in half to be right for the club. But with the Champions League qualifiers already underway, the situation is pressing for the club.
