Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has sent a message to the club after scoring for Lyon against Neil Lennon’s side in Saturday night’s friendly.

It only took the Frenchman a few minutes to put his side in front in the friendly, peeling off the Hoops defence to head home.

It helped the Ligue 1 outfit to a 2-1 victory as Neil Lennon’s side got an excellent fitness workout ahead of the Scottish Premiership season.

Dembele was quick to acknowledge the strangeness of facing the Scottish champions after the match.

On Twitter he wrote alongside a picture of him and Scott Brown: “Nice to see you again Celtic. Felt kind of weird to score against you but after all it’s only a preparation game. We’ll meet again soon.”

It was indeed strange to see the powerful forward lineup against us, though despite his goal, the makeshift Celtic defence largely kept him quiet.

He is likely one of the best strikers we will face all season so the challenge will have done Nir Bitton and youngster Stephen Welsh the world of good.

Hopefully playing against Dembele isn’t something that becomes the norm in the future, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him pop up against us in European football down the line.

He’ll always be fondly remembered by the Celtic support and it’s pleasing to see him still have a lot of respect for his former team.

In other news, pundit John Hartson has given an alternative view to the situation surrounding Leigh Griffiths at the club.
