Oliver Burke’s future hasn’t yet been decided, but the player himself has admitted he would like to stay at Parkhead.

The Scotland international signed for the Hoops in the early stages of the January window. Unfortunately, it’s only on a loan deal until the end of the season.

West Brom manager Darren Moore has been quick to rule out the possibility of Burke staying in Glasgow. He wants Celtic’s loan star to return to the Hawthorns in the summer and kick on with the Championship side.

But Burke, who now has two goals in his five Celtic appearances, has told the Daily Record that he would be open to a permanent switch in the summer.

“I’m enjoying myself at Celtic, I really like it here. I think it’s a great club with great team-mates who have made me feel welcome. Not only that, we’re doing really well on the pitch as well and creating a chemistry that’s working. Long may it continue.

“I’m just a happier boy now that I’m playing football. Every day I’m happy and I’m getting up really excited to come in and train and see the boys.

“Right now I’m just focusing on day to day. I don’t want to look too far ahead because sometimes decisions can be taken out of your hands. But I’m really happy here and if I’m enjoying my football then I want to stay.”

Difficult to see how this deal gets over the line

If ever there was a transfer scenario in which player power didn’t mean all that much, it would be this one. That’s because it’s extremely difficult to see how Celtic get a permanent deal done for Burke.

All of the power in this deal surely lies with West Brom. They splashed out £15million for his services at the start of last season, and that’s a heavy investment to let go for them.

Considering Moore wants him back in the summer, Celtic are in no position to make demands here. West Brom, you wouldn’t imagine, would want to make a loss on a player they still have high hopes for.

Celtic’s record signing is of course Odsonne Edouard for £9million pounds. It’s nearly impossible to see them splashing the cash out that would be required to sign former Leipzig man Burke.

Regardless, it’s great to see Burke enjoying himself so much in Glasgow. He has plenty of raw potential, and Hoops fans will be hoping he can deliver in the short time he’s in Glasgow.
