What Artur Boruc has told Josip Juranovic about Celtic and the derby
Artur Boruc is a big part of the reason Josip Juranovic is at Celtic, the Croatian defender has told reporters today.
Juranovic was on media duties ahead of this weekend’s massive derby against Rangers. Naturally one of the topics of discussion that came up was his relationship with the goalkeeper he spent time with at Legia Warsaw.
Boruc will definitely go down in history as a derby character. He thrived on the derby matches, the rivalry and was adored by the Celtic support.
English isn’t Juranovic’s natural language and there was no interpreter, but his language skills are better than mine! Nonetheless, it was a short and sweet media outing.
When asked about teammates who have told him about the derby and Celtic, Juranovic said [Celtic TV]: “I spoke with Artur and he said this is a huge game, this is maximum pressure and you must think 100% from the first minute to the last.
“He was telling me this is a big club with big support behind him. He is also one of the reasons that I am here.”
Juranovic could be exposed to the atmosphere and pressures of a derby immediately. He’s been training with the squad this week and although he missed out on the AZ Alkmaar game, he’s eligible for selection on Sunday.
It would be quite the debut. But given the exertions of Anthony Ralston on Thursday night, and indeed over the last few weeks, it’s not outwith the realms of possibility.
He also has experience of playing against and with Rangers left-back Borna Barisic, who is likely to feature on Sunday given their squad problems. That could be an interesting match-up if the two square off this weekend.
Many fans will likely want Ralston to start, but I can see an argument for Juranovic to come in too. It’ll be one of Ange Postecoglou’s big decisions.
