Callum McGregor has seen and won it all at Celtic.

But this season would have been very different, and like no other for the Celtic skipper, who lifted Premiership title number 11.

Auston Trusty has shared a dressing room with McGregor for some while now, and his ‘influence’ on the champions of Scotland is as strong as ever.

Charlie Mulgrew shared that Trusty told him how McGregor ‘drives the standards every day’, and makes it clear that every player is aware of what it takes to represent Celtic.

“I think Callum’s influence is understated in that changing room,” said Mulgrew. “When you speak to some of the players, especially some of the players who are new signings.

“Or I spoke to Trusty, and he told me that ‘the influence Callum has on the changing room. How he drives the standards every day. How he makes them understand what it is to be a Celtic player?'”

Callum McGregor’s influence behind the scenes at Celtic detailed

Yes, McGregor hasn’t been at his best this season, in terms of performances, but he is still as important as ever.

Out on the pitch, the retired Scotland international isn’t as vocal or aggressive as Scott Brown was during his legendary spell at Celtic Park.

But that doesn’t mean the Hoops aren’t as successful.

In fact, even during a season when dark clouds have been hovering above the club, Celtic secured a domestic double.

And Mulgrew, speaking to Go Radio, wanted to give the man with the armband his flowers, with some behind-the-scenes insight into what he is like.

“Callum McGregor, for me, he gets some stick sometimes about his legs getting on a bit,” said Mulgrew.

“I think Callum’s influence is understated in that changing room. When you speak to some of the players, especially some of the players who are new signings.

“Or I spoke to Trusty, and he told me that ‘the influence Callum has on the changing room. How he drives the standards every day. How he makes them understand what it is to be a Celtic player?’

“What’s that? That’s winning. Every single day in training, turning up and giving everything. So, you fall back into your habits when it comes to games.

“You need to win every game. Draw is a disaster. Finishing second is last. You need to continue to win. What he has done, alongside the manager and the staff, in dragging that team through the big opponents.

“You see him before the game, and the camera pans on him. You see him speaking to the players. You see what he is driving behind the scenes there. He isn’t letting anybody come off for a second.”
