Celtic fans will still be recovering, or partying, after watching their team beat Rangers in the League Cup final at Hampden yesterday.

Celtic overcame Rangers after a thrilling encounter that saw Brendan Rodgers’ side come back from 1-0 down to take a quick second-half 2-1 lead to then surrender a one-goal lead not once, but twice to take the game into extra time.

The extra 30 minutes provided no more goals as the game finished 3-3 so it was down to the penalty shootout to decide who would take the League Cup trophy home, Celtic or Rangers.

Michael Stewart shares what Brendan Rodgers did right after Celtic beat Rangers

The nerves were shredded at the end of the penalty shootout and as soon as Daizen Maeda’s spot kick won Celtic the cup 5-4 on spotkicks.

And Micheal Stewart shares what Rodgers did as soon as the ball nestled into the back of Jack Butland’s net.

Stewart told Premier Sports, “When that final whistle went we were standing watching and Brendan Rodgers turned and looked at his family and just puffed his cheeks.

“That sums it up. They’re just over the line, there. That man Philippe Clement has been under intense pressure. Intense pressure.

“They have to try and use this to get some motivation to move forward. They were close there. They were close.”

Clearly the tension of the penalty drama affected Celtic boss Rodgers who was as cool as a cucumber right before the big Hampden kick-off.

What Callum McGregor & Kasper Schmeichel did with Celtic’s fringe players after beating Rangers in Hampden

After Celtic goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, saved a Rangers penalty to set the Hoops on the way to the win, it was during the trophy presentation that the big Dane and Hoops skipper, Callum McGregor showed a super touch of class.

As the first team took to the podium, McGregor and Schmeichel did this:

That was a superb piece of leadership shown by the two Celtic players as they insisted every single member of the Hoops squad got involved in the Hampden celebrations.

It’s little wonder Celtic are rampant as it is these simple acts that help to build a strong team bond and cohesion.

Celtic will celebrate well into the night as the enormity of their 119th trophy win sinks in this week.
