The most important man at a football club, including Celtic, is the manager.

Having quality players on the pitch plays a huge part in delivering silverware but having the right man in the Celtic dugout pretty much guarantees success.

Celtic are Scotland’s most successful club with 120 major honours to their name and Brendan Rodgers has played a massive part in that in two Parkhead spells.

Now entering into the final year of his current deal, the Celtic manager has revealed that he has held talks with Dermot Desmond about the possibility of extending his second Parkhead stay.

Brendan Rodgers Celtic extension a ‘long way out’

Brendan Rodgers is currently one of Celtic’s most successful managers, especially in the modern era.

With 11 trophies to his name, only the immortal Jock Stein and Willie Maley have won more silverware at Celtic.

With many fans hoping that he stays on for an extended stay at Celtic, Rodgers has shared what he spoke to Dermot Desmond about and it appears it wasn’t just about his Hoops contract.

Rodgers told The Scottish Sun, “Yes, we spoke with all the guys.

“I had a meal and a chat around a number of things. So, yes, I had a nice meet. We touched base on it.

“But it primarily is just a chat around things. Like I’ve said, it’s still a long, long way out. But my focus is really just now getting the team ready and making us really competitive and exciting for this coming season.

“But a year’s a long, long way out.”

Celtic cannot let Brendan Rodgers’ contract situation rumble on

Celtic must make a decision on whether to offer Rodgers a new deal sooner rather than later. The club does not need any uncertainty or dubiety surrounding it as they head into the new season.

With Rangers coming under new stewardship, Celtic are likely to face a tougher test than normal from Ibrox in the defence of the Scottish Premiership title.

With automatic entry into the Champions League already taken away from the Scottish champions, finishing second in the league makes the pathway to UEFA’s millions and the elite competition even harder moving forward.

If Celtic want to continue their progress in Europe and dominate Scottish football, then getting Rodgers tied up to a new deal must be a priority for the Parkhead board.
