Alistair Johnston just has one more game to go in the Copa America before the Celtic defender gets a well-earned rest this summer.
After Johnston exited the tournament last night to Argentina, the Celtic hero will face either Uruguay or Colombia in the third-placed play-off in the early hours of Sunday morning as Canada continues their historic run in the tournament.
And whilst players like Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David have been grabbing most of the limelight, Celtic’s treble-winner has been on the lips of the Canadian fans after his impressive displays for the national side in the tournament.
Celtic defender labelled a ‘monster’
Johnston has played for ninety minutes in all five games as national manager, Jesse Marsch, shows great faith in the Celtic defender.
And whilst Johnston’s reputation back in Canada grows, the fans have taken to social media to praise him for his Copa America efforts.
One fan posted, “Liam Millar and Alistair Johnston only ones who brought their A-game tonight.” after the defeat to Argentina.
And another says the Celtic right-back is really undervalued in world football:
And as one fan waited for the big kick-off last night, he posted, “They got Lionel Messi but we got Alistair Johnston.“

Whilst another labelled him a ‘monster’ after watching him at the World Cup and now at the Copa America:
Another praised Johnston’s performances on the pitch for his team and how he represents his country off it after posting, “Alistair Johnston is one of the most underrated players of this team. Quietly puts in a good performance every game, and off the pitch he is so well-spoken.
“Alistair Johnston represents what this program is all about.”
The Celtic defender immediately won over the Celtic fans with his aggression on the park and how he spoke so passionately about the club off it.
It’s little wonder the Canadian fans have taken Johnston to their hearts just like the Celtic fans have done.
