What Celtic fans are saying about Liam Scales after watching his performance vs Kilmarnock

There were a lot of pleasing aspects about Celtic’s Flag Day win over Kilmarnock today.

For one, James Forrest has proven that he has still got a lot to offer in a Celtic jersey. Secondly, Reo Hatate also looks like a different player after Brendan Rodgers labelled him a ‘different animal’ in the Parkhead win.

And thirdly, Liam Scales looked absolutely solid in the 90 minutes he put in during the win where the Irishman scored his first goal of the season and almost nabbed a second had it not been for a goal-line clearance.

Scales took a lot of flack at the tail end of last season but in his Flag Day performance against Derek McInnes’ team, the Hoops defender had many Celtic fans talking.

Celtic fans blown away by Liam Scales vs Kilmarnock

Scales was once again trusted to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers on the opening day fixture and I think it’s fair to say he didn’t let Brendan Rodgers down if the reaction of these Celtic fans is anything to go by.

One Celtic fan said, “Great result. Played well. Sharp passing. And Liam Scales was great! Made my day.” whilst another joked, “Now that it’s sunk in… who stole Liam Scales and replaced him with an absolute baller today?

Another fan was also blown away by Scales’ Celtic performance as he joked:

One Celtic fan praised the club’s transfer acumen for signing the Republic of Ireland international, “Look at the money that was paid on other CBs in recent years and they can’t get a game for love nor money.

He actually dug us out of a hole by being able to come in and do a job. Gets on with it, rarely actually costs us a goal and was dirt cheap. Should be praised.” whilst another simply said, “Liam Scales has been absolutely immense today.”

One of the best players on the Celtic pitch said one:

Another Celtic fan praised the Irishman’s passing, “Liam Scales passing to teammates instead of opponents, doing it quickly and accurately and scoring. Tears in my eyes!” and another reckons the Celtic defender may have made SPFL history, “What’s the record for the most individual passes in SPFL history? Scales completed 169 today.

There is no doubt Scales’ form did dip towards the end of last season. After playing 45 games fatigue would have played a part in that.

However, looking at the 25-year-old today, he looked fit and strong and raring to go and if he continues to put in performances like this one today, I believe this won’t be the last time we hear Celtic fans speaking so positively about the Hoops defender.
