What Celtic fans noticed Anthony Ralston doing during Kairat Almaty defeat is a cause for concern before Glasgow derby

Celtic already have a problem at right-back and it may get a whole lot worse.

The Hoops crashed out of the Champions League after losing to Kairat Almaty on penalties in the play-off round.

Aiden McGeady believes defeat is a ‘stark reminder’ for Celtic and how much work they have to do to get things right.

Meanwhile, John Hartson accused the Bhoys of complacency, despite fielding their strongest side available.

Anthony Ralston started due to Alistair Johnston being sidelined until November, but there are now concerns over the 26-year-old after fans spotted what he was doing during the game against Kairat.

Anthony Ralston appeared to take painkillers during Celtic loss

Ralston is expected to be the man to deputise in place of Johnston while he recovers from injury and needs to be fit no matter what.

However, there is a chance that Brendan Rodgers could be left sweating over his availability after Celtic fans noticed him taking painkillers during the game.

With the Glasgow derby coming up this weekend, supporters will be hoping that this is just a precautionary measure and that Ralston will be fit for the trip to Ibrox to face Rangers.

Who would replace Anthony Ralston if he isn’t fit to play vs Rangers?

The obvious candidate to come in and replace the 26-year-old would be young Colby Donovan.

Donovan was praised for his impact on Tuesday night and the 18-year-old seemed to handle the occasion well.

Of course, a game against Rangers is a different kettle of fish, but the right-back would come in and play without fear.

Dane Murray is another option to play in the position too if desperately needed.
