The reverberations about Celtic’s 6-0 League Cup win over Aberdeen are likely to felt in Pittodrie for some time to come.

Confidence was high in the Granite City as Aberdeen have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season which included Jimmy Thelin’s team’s 2-2 draw at Celtic Park.

The Dons were looking to build on that performance and progress to the League Cup final but the current Scottish champions were just superb as Celtic racked up six goals to send Aberdeen packing from Hampden.

After the match, Jimmy Thelin offered a class reaction to Aberdeen’s ‘hard’ lesson from Celtic but here, the Pittodrie gaffer shares what he told his shattered players after the final whistle in the Hampden dressing room.

Thelin’s ‘most important’ message to Aberdeen after Celtic defeat

Thelin told the Press & Journal, “When you are winning things can be easy but when you have tough times the most important thing is how you react to that situation.

“I talked to them after the game about how we support each other, as the whole staff, the players.

“We of course wanted to give our supporters a different experience but now we have to focus on the next game.”

Of course, Aberdeen’s next fixture is at home against Dundee on Friday night at Pittodrie where Thelin will be looking to overtake Celtic in the league with a win against the Dens Park club.

And they will need to because Celtic come calling on the 4th of December where Brendan Rodgers will be looking to send the Dons another message in the Scottish Premiership.

Jimmy Thelin admits Celtic ‘really hurt’ his Aberdeen team

Despite the 6-0 scoreline, Thelin says there are no excuses to be found as he he admits Celtic ‘really hurt’ his Aberdeen team on Saturday.

“I don’t want to use excuses,” said Thelin, “We have to get used to this environment and the only way to do that is to be there.

“Now we have to try again. We focus and don’t try to find excuses. We need to learn, improve on this and take on the challenge again.

“Celtic were really good and hurt us really hard in this game. But I believe we are strong enough to move on to the next game.”

Celtic now face RB Leipzig tomorrow night on a high as the Bundesliga come calling on matchday four of the Champions League.

A win at Celtic Park will put Rodgers firmly in the driving seat to get out of the league phase for the first time since 2013.
