What Lennon has told his Celtic players is ominous for Scottish football

Neil Lennon thinks Celtic can get even better this season, despite being undefeated in domestic action since the turn of the year, speaking to The Celtic View (05/03 print edition, page 6).

Last night’s foes Livingston are the only team to take points off of us in 2020, a night that the lead over Rangers was extended regardless.

The Bhoys are romping towards a ninth consecutive league title, currently sitting 13 points clear in the Scottish Premiership.

Lennon is understandably delighted with his team but has told them they can be even better in the closing stages of the season.

It’s a verdict that’s ominous for the rest of Scottish football given our current form.

As quoted by The Celtic View (05/03 print edition, page 6), the manager said: “I think the boys can get better, I’ve said that to them.

“I think we push on and finish the season as strongly as we possibly can.

“There’s more to come from this team and squad, and there’s no room for complacency.”

Lennon is clearly setting the bar high at Celtic and while his public messages are rarely critical of his players, he’ll be driving into them that they still have gears to go through in their performances.

We still have some massive matches ahead, most notably two derbies against Rangers and a semi-final against Aberdeen. If we don’t turn up on those occasions then we could find things difficult.

Next week’s trip to Ibrox is especially huge. If we win in that one, as we did in our last visit, it’ll be another critical blow to our rivals in the quest for nine and beyond.

The exciting thing is that the manager’s comments ring true. There’s certainly room for improvement when it comes to Celtic’s performances.

We’re creating chances but if our attacking players can again find that clinical edge and our defenders cut out individual errors, we could be terrifying over the next couple of the months.
