What Neil Lennon said about Nick Hammond in August

One man who may be more grateful than most for Celtic’s appointment of Nick Hammond as their new Head of Recruitment is Neil Lennon.

The Northern Irishman nailed his colours to the mast in August as he revealed that he wanted Hammond to replace Lee Congerton in the role. Now, after a short delay, it seems as if he is going to get his wish with the Scottish Sun recently reporting that the club are set to appoint Hammond.

And Lennon will undoubtedly be very pleased about that.

“We do have a rebuilding job on the recruitment side, there is no question of that,” he told the Scottish Sun eight weeks ago. “We are trying to do that and Nick is working to rebuilt the recruitment department.

“Lee Congerton left in the summer and that created a void. It is an issue at the minute because it’s not been filled yet. Nick will hopefully be in permanently and hopefully he can build his own ideas there. That’s what we are looking for him to do.

“It’s been difficult with so much change and that’s the part the public don’t see.”

Lennon and Hammond can continue positive relationship

With the next transfer window just around the corner, it is really important that the club have got Hammond in full-time. Not a great deal is known about exactly which of the summer deals he was responsible but the overall window did look pretty healthy in the end up.

You always got the impression that the club were playing catch up during the summer following the departure of Congerton. The Leicester City employee had been involved in all of the recruitment meetings before moving down south and leaving the club in the lurch.

Thankfully Hammond managed to save the day. Hopefully he can do even more than that with a little time to prepare for January.
