What Ryan Christie told Julián Araujo about the Celtic vs Rangers Glasgow Derby

Julian Araujo arrived at Celtic on the eve of the Glasgow Derby game against Rangers.

Araujo joined Celtic on New Year’s Day and it looks like he will be thrown in at the deep end against Rangers in this afternoon’s Glasgow Derby.

The Mexican international arrived on loan from Bournemouth where former Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie now plies his trade.

Christie played 15 times against Rangers and his record against the Ibrox club wasn’t great as Celtic lost nine of those with the Bournemouth man in the team.

However, that hasn’t stopped him from telling Araujo just how crazy these games are as the new Celtic signing also shares a message from another former Hoops player who played at the club.

Efrain Juarez ‘spoke very highly’ about Celtic to Julian Araujo

Efrain Juarez played for Celtic back in 2010 and spent two seasons in Paradise but struggled to hold down a regular first-team place.

But despite making just 20 appearances for Celtic, Araujo has shared how Juarez still speaks fondly about his time at Parkhead.

Araujo told Celtic TV, “I’ve spoken to Ryan [Christie]. Obviously as soon as the news came out that it was a possibility, I’ve already known that Celtic is a big club.

“It’s a historic club. There’s one Mexican that actually played here, Efrain Juarez, so, yeah, I mean, he’s spoke very highly of the club and he told me what it would be like and it hasn’t been surprising.

“It is where it is because of the people that are around it.”

As previously mentioned, Christie faced Rangers 15 times as a Celtic player as Araujo tells how the Bournemouth man warned him about the intensity of the derby.

Araujo continued, “I think that’s one of the main things that Ryan told me about, you know, it’s a do or die game.

“You know, this is what people in Glasgow live for. I’m excited because in my culture, Mexican culture, these are the type of games that we’re born to play in.

“And these are the games I’ve been waiting for my whole life.”

Araujo is likely to be thrown into the white-hot atmosphere of today’s game and Celtic fans will be hoping that the fullback can help get a positive draw.

Because if he can do that, Araujo will not only become an instant hero to the Celtic supporters, he will also take a lot of heat off of Wilfried Nancy’s shoulders.
