Celtic’s win in Aberdeen was a statement of intent sent by Brendan Rodgers and his players in Pittodrie last night.

Brendan Rodgers masterminded another Pittodrie win as Celtic beat Aberdeen 1-0 to go seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table today.

A goal from Reo Hatate in the 78th minute ensured Celtic took all three points back to Glasgow and put a large dent in Jimmy Thelin’s hopes of keeping up with the current Scottish champions in the race for the title.

The team were given some superb backing from the travelling Celtic supporters and what they did seriously impressed the Celtic boss.

What Brendan Rodgers told his players about the Celtic fans before beating Aberdeen

Celtic fans are tucked into a corner of Pittodrie that was exposed to the harsh conditions last night. Recognising that, Rodgers shares the message he delivered to his players inside the dressing room prior to kick-off.

Rodgers told Celtic TV, “I said to the players before the game, you know, our supporters have come from all over Scotland and probably have flown in and drove in from everywhere and they’re stuck in a corner with no cover on them.

“So we have to owe it to them to give everything to get the points and send them away happy. And thankfully, the players did that.

“It was a great team performance. The supporters will have pride in their team, and hopefully, they all get home safely.”

What Celtic fans did that made Reo Hatate ‘happy’ at Aberdeen

The winning goal was scored by Reo Hatate and immediately after the ball nestled into the back of the Aberdeen net, the fans belted out the Japanese midfielder’s song.

Reacting to that, Hatate told Celtic TV, “So they always sing my song. So when I scored the goal or even when I don’t score the goal they always sing my song.

“I’m happy to pray that they are here.”

Celtic can now focus on the next challenge which is against Hibs at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon. Another win will solidify their lead at the top of the table.

With Aberdeen at home to St Johnstone and Rangers away to Ross County on Sunday, there is a potential of increasing the gap to the Ibrox at least to 14 points with a win over the Edinburgh side.

The fixtures are coming thick and fast and whilst the players are doing their job on the park, the Celtic fans continue to do theirs off it with their superb backing of the team.
