Celtic’s post-split fixtures are approaching, with just two games of the regular season remaining.

Martin O’Neill has kept the team’s title hopes alive across his two interim spells, but the most decisive days of the season are yet to come.

With the Hoops locked in a three-way title race with Hearts and Rangers, it’s set to be the most dramatic run-in in modern memory.

But with the process of deciding fixtures notoriously complicated, what can Celtic fans expect?

What position would Celtic be in NOW if Brendan Rodgers was still in charge?

Things could've been very different…

Celtic due three home games after Premiership split

The top six is all-but set to see the top three joined by Motherwell, Hibs and Falkirk.

On the balance of playing against each team home and away, Celtic would be expected to play away against all of that trio and at home against Hearts and Rangers.

However, once the split is upon us, Celtic will have played 16 home games and 17 away. This means that the league must ensure a third home game after the split for O’Neill’s side.

In the interest of the fact that Motherwell are technically still in the title race, this is unlikely to be against the Steelmen, so one of Hibs or Falkirk will be travelling to Parkhead for a third time this season.

League leaders Hearts will be due an additional away game. Only Rangers have hosted the Jambos twice out of the current top six, giving the league a wide selection of away games for Derek McInnes’ side.

Rangers are also due three away games, meaning that the Ibrox side will be travelling to the Falkirk Stadium, Fir Park or Easter Road for a third time.

It’s hard not to feel like this situation suits Celtic, with the champions set for one more home game than Hearts and Rangers.

The only trouble is that two of their three games will be against their direct title rivals.

So, in short, what can we expect from the post-split period of the Scottish Premiership? That the champions, one way or another, will be decided at Celtic Park.
