Brendan Rodgers has been compared to legendary Celtic treble-winning manager Martin O’Neill.
Rodgers has won two domestic trebles as the Celtic manager and has an excellent record when it comes to facing Rangers in the Glasgow Derby.
Since his return to Celtic, Rodgers has won six games out of seven against Rangers which includes two domestic cup finals.
Celtic’s Scottish Cup final win and League Cup victory are probably Rodgers’ best wins over the Ibrox club and because of his record against Rangers, Johan Mjallby has compared him to the legendary Hoops boss, Martin O’Neill.

Brendan Rodgers is ‘brilliant’ like Celtic legend Martin O’Neill
Mjalby told The Celtic Way, “Brendan has a good chance to win the treble again but Celtic still need to be focused to win the matches to ensure that happens.
“The current manager is so good at preparing the players and he has a knack for saying the right things to the right players at the right time.
“I guess Brendan is like Martin O’Neill in that respect. I have never played or worked under Brendan, of course, but Martin’s man-management style strikes me as being similar.
| Celtic record vs Rangers | Played | Won | Drew | Lost | Goals Scored | Goals against |
| Martin O’Neill | 22 | 11 | 3 | 8 | 31 | 30 |
| Brendan Rodgers | 21 | 16 | 3 | 2 | 51 | 22 |
“Brendan has shown that he is a brilliant manager throughout his career and he has Celtic playing a brand of attacking football that we all want to see them play.
“When it comes to Rangers games, Martin’s team talks, and his speeches were second to none and I am sure it is the same in the current Celtic dressing room with Brendan. They both strike me as managers whom the Celtic players would run through a brick wall for.”
Johan Mjallby shares ‘the secret to Celtic’s success’ before Rangers game
Celtic is officially Scotland’s most successful club. With 119 trophies to their name, with 120 and, if the Hoops win the Scottish Cup, 121 on the way, Mjallby has shared what he believes is the secret to that success.
Mjallby continued, “The secret to Celtic’s success is to treat every player differently and they are both psychologists who know how to get the best out of every individual player and in turn that helps the team ethic and it is how they function as a unit.
“When you have so many talented players at your disposal then the best managers are the ones that get every individual performing to the highest level possible.
“With Brendan at the helm, I am extremely confident that Celtic will come up trumps and win another domestic treble.”
Rodgers is enjoying a second trophy-laden spell at Celtic and with another year left to go on his contract, that could increase further next season.
Being compared to a legend like Martin O’Niell is high praise indeed but for Rodgers, the Celtic boss is certainly putting himself in that same category if he’s not already there.
