When the transfer window officially opens as Celtic speculation cranks up
The transfer window this summer is going to be hugely important to Ange Postecoglou and Celtic this summer after a stunning debut campaign for the new boss.
Indeed, a league and cup double would normally suggest this team is exactly in the position we want it to be in. And sure, they are in a way given they’re a lot further on as a unit than we thought they would be.
But despite a host of signings coming into the club last year, there are still several tweaks needing to be made. Evolution is a big thing in a squad, and that’s what Ange is looking to carry out as he and new Head of Recruitment Mark Lawwell look to add even more talent to the ranks and boost competition for places.
And despite the fact the season has only been finished for not long over a fortnight, the transfer stories keep coming. Mohanad Jeahze, Erick Otieno, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Ko Itakura, Kevin N’Doram, Joseph Okumu. We haven’t even gone through them all and yet these names have all been linked with moves to or interest from Parkhead.
But when can we actually officially start bringing players to Celtic Park? When will we start seeing some of these transfer stories actually come to fruition? Well, from June 10th, Celtic will finally be able to take proper action and confirm new signings to the club [Sky Sports].
That’s the date on which the transfer window opens across the UK. And given Ange wants players in the door before pre-season begins at the end of the month [The Scotsman], it gives Celtic a decent timeframe to get some work done.
Celtic have more on their summer to-do list than many may think
It may look as though we simply have to make some minor changes here and there. However, the truth is there’s a lot more that needs to be done than it may seem at first glance.
For example, signing up Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers remains an essential taks that has to be at the top of the agenda when the transfer window opens. Should Ange manage to bring both to the club, it will give the supporters a huge morale boost to kick things off.
Competition in certain areas is also essential given there were too many players not being properly pushed this year. Greg Taylor appeared to have the left-back spot to himself whilst there were no plausible contenders to knock off CCV or Carl Starfelt from their centre-back perch.
Ange, meanwhile, has already confirmed that he wants to bring a new midfielder to the club this summer [Daily Record]. What style of midfielder that is, again, is anyone’s guess. In addition to that, he’s reportedly on the hunt for a striker too [Daily Record]. There are more than 1 or 2 signings needing to be done here.
That’s without even mentioning the arduous task of trying to get rid of as much deadweight as possible this summer. It’s going to be extremely difficult to see off the likes of Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti, Boli Bolingoli, and Ismaila Soro respectively. Not with all of them still on lucrative contracts.
So it’s going to be a busy summer indeed with hopefully plenty of incomings and outgoings. With just 9 days until the window opens, hopefully we manage to get some deals over the line in the early stages.
