Wholesome: Celtic stars Edouard and Soro have spirited debate at FT

Celtic stars Edouard and Soro could’ve been at each other’s throats.

Very late on in Celtic’s win over Aberdeen, the Frenchman had a chance to lay it off to Soro in the box. Edouard went for the shot himself, and the scoreline stayed at 1-0.

It would’ve been a very nice moment for Soro, who’s only scored once for the Bhoys. Granted, that goal was an absolute belter, but still.

With all the talk of dressing-room in-fighting this season, it could’ve got ugly. Ismaila Soro have every right to be angry at Celtic striker Edouard, who was incredibly selfish in that moment. Perhaps with the ringing of social media criticism in his ears, he felt a second might have helped. Certainly, he’s a goal-scorer, and so his instincts aren’t off in that regard.

Soro, though, was absolutely wide open, and he almost certainly would’ve settled any injury time nerves. But instead of scowling and fighting, we got this wholesome exchange:

Celtic men Edouard and Soro show positivity under new regime

The whole team seemed a little more relaxed today. Not casual by any means, but there was an air of confidence around the squad against Aberdeen. The centre-backs, particularly, played with more freedom. The midfield passed the ball around well, and Celtic talisman Edouard must’ve taken on every Dons player today.

So, while it may seem like nothing (and probably is), this polite exchange of ideas between Edouard and Soro points at a better culture around the team. No, Celtic didn’t recapture the zip and composure of times past, but at the very least there were some smiles on faces in today’s match.

That hasn’t been the case for a while.

Ryan Christie, for example, typified this. Yes, he played with more restraint, but he was happier to take players on. When he did shoot, it was very close to hitting the back of the net, but more generally he moved the ball on. The whole game, he was pressing and bothering Andrew Considine, his Scotland team-mate.

As if you needed reminding, a miracle would be needed to seal 10IAR. But if the players and the supporters can enjoy their football, and Celtic play with more vigour and joy, then it’s hardly a bad thing.
