For Scotland and Celtic defender, Anthony Ralston, the international break is now over and normal domestic matters can resume this week.
Ralston starred in Scotland’s draw with Portugal at Hampden last night as Steve Clarke’s side picked up their first point of the Nations League campaign.
However, it wasn’t technically Ralston’s performance that had the Celtic fans talking. Instead, it was former Hoops hero, Charlie Mulgrew, who stole his thunder on social media last night.
With the game being streamed live via the Scottish FA’s YouTube channel, Mulgrew was invited to to take on co-commentary duty.
And it’s fair to say that what he delivered was extremely popular amongst much of the Hoops support.
Celtic defender Anthony Ralston gets the Mulgrew treatment
There is no doubt Ralston had a very good game against the Portuguese but just before he was subbed off, this happened:
Mulgrew said of Ralston trying to challenge Leao, “He screwed Ralston into the deck there. Somebody will need to go and unscrew him.”
One Celtic fan commented, “Some save from the old boy. Best part though is Charlie Mulgrew saying he screwed Ralston into the ground….someone will need to unscrew him 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏”
This Celtic fan found his comment hilarious:
One Celtic fan said, “We need to hear more Charlie Mulgrew on co-comms. Some of his wee one-liners last night were class! 😂😂.
“Analysis of the game was really good, too. A nice change from the same old voices.”
Charlie Mulgrew delights Celtic fans with Cristiano Ronaldo quip
As we all know by now, Cristiano Ronaldo was not a happy man when the full-time whistle went at Hampden last night.
And if he wasn’t happy then, wait till he hears about what Mulgrew said about his ball control.
On Ronaldo’s first touch, Mulgrew said, “You don’t often see that from Ronaldo, starting a motorbike. I’ve done it plenty of times but you don’t see it from him.”
And that prompted this reply from another Celtic fan, “Honestly, Charlie Mulgrew might be the best guy of all time.” Another said, “This is brilliant from Charlie Mulgrew on commentary about Ronaldo’s touch.”
And another just had to mention the Ralston comment again.
Mulgrew is famous amongst Celtic fans for his one-liners and his storytelling abilities and it seems that he has found a new calling if he wants to pursue a career in commentary.
The former Celtic defender is currently enjoying a coaching role at Hamilton right now but after the reaction to his performance last night, I’m sure the likes of Sky and Premier Sports will be giving him a call real soon.
