Celtic aren’t just six points off the top of the Scottish Premiership.
They’ve also scored seven fewer goals than leaders Hearts, and just one more than fifth-placed Hibernian.
Brendan Rodgers bemoaned the amount of goals that the team had lost over 2025, starting with Kyogo Furuhashi in January before the departures of Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah in the summer.
And with Wilfried Nancy’s spell still firmly in its early stages, he finds himself with Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada leading the line.
January 2026 is now a week away, and as Nancy’s first window approaches, striker is a clear priority.

Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy on former Columbus man Cucho Hernandez
Nancy has alleviated fears of a Daizen Maeda departure, which had become a serious possibility after his revelation that he wanted to leave Celtic in the summer.
But with Maeda currently being used as a touchline winger, the problem up front remains.

Speaking ahead of the Hoops’ festive fixture against Livingston, Nancy was asked about Cucho Hernandez’ importance to his Columbus Crew team.
Colombia forward Hernandez was Columbus’ star player, racking up 58 goals in 94 goals before joining Real Betis a year ago.
Nancy said: “I think that if you ask the question to all coaches, they’re going to say the striker is important.
“Obviously, yes, we are all the same as a coach. But at the same time, what I like with my team and with all the teams that I coach, and for the moment it’s not so bad, we can score from any position.
“This is what has happened since I’m here.
“Now, yes, you mentioned Cucho Hernandez. He did score many goals, but we scored many goals with other players.
“For me, this is important. Obviously, like I said, as a coach, yes, we want all the positions in our team. But again, we’re going to work on that and we’ll see.”

Other transfer priorities for Celtic in January
Nancy’s instant change of system has led to a fair few square pegs in round holes; he may look to address them in the winter window.
Sebastian Tounekti, Yang Hyun-Jun and Luke McCowan have all appeared as wing-backs, amid a dearth of options in those positions.
Anthony Ralston has been utilised on the right of the back three, with a lack of centre back options also apparent.
If reports are to be believed, a midfielder is also on Celtic’s wishlist.
