Aberdeen and Scotland legend Willie Miller has lauded the mentality of David Turnbull after his breakthrough into the Celtic team this season.
Turnbull was signed from Motherwell at the start of the season.
Despite having to remain patient for an opportunity, he’s taken his chances with aplomb and is now considered as one of the midfielders to build around under a new manager.
Miller has been especially impressed by his mental fortitude in a season that could not have been easy to adjust to.
Speaking to The Sunday Post today (09/05 print edition, Post-Match supplement page 6), the pundit said: “David is obviously a very talented boy. We know that because he has already won this award.
“However, I think he has also displayed real mental strength over the past season, so it is good to see him in the mix, too.
“If you talk about a player joining Celtic during the last decade, you are looking at slotting them into a winning side, one that is picking up trophies while performing with lots of confidence.
“In the case of David, though, he has gone in at a time of turmoil when things are going wrong and anyone involved is coming under enormous scrutiny.
“To go into a new club under those circumstances – and to keep your head up and prove not only that you belong at the level, but that you can shine there – says a lot about him.”
Sting of failure will only motivate David Turnbull at Celtic
Unlike other players at Celtic, Turnbull has yet to experience the thrill of a league title win. The failure this season will keep him hungry heading into next term.
And that’s what we need in this Celtic team. Hunger. Desire. A fresh start. Turnbull will undoubtedly have a part to play in all that.
Still just 21, he has the chance to write his own history at the club.

You get the sense that other players in the Celtic team have grown tired of what’s needed to win title after title.
Not so Turnbull, and that could make all the difference when trying to impress a new manager.
In other news, Benjamin Siegrist could be available for just £400,000 this summer.
