Celtic are a special club and those who get to wear the green and white cherish it forever.

Plenty of players have waxed lyrical about their time at Celtic Park while several footballing legends have been in awe of the legendary atmosphere.

Champions League winner Luis Enrique loved the Celtic atmosphere and the likes of Adrien Rabiot and Lionel Messi also name-checked Parkhead as a favourite.

Whether it be a one-off game or joining the club itself, the nights under the lights in Glasgow appeal to everyone.

Sadly though, not everyone got to fully fulfil their full Celtic wish.

Gianluigi Buffon wanted one last Celtic visit

Gianluigi Buffon is one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time and footballing legend.

A star in goal for Parma and Juventus, Buffon was also in goal for Italy’s 2006 World Cup win and achieved everything you can as a professional.

The Italian was lucky enough to visit Celtic Park twice, and only playing in one of them, but in 2017, Buffon admitted that he hoped to play at Parkhead one last time.

Via the Daily Record, he said: “I want to experience electricity of Celtic Park once more.

“Playing in the Champions League allows you to experience some of the most exciting stadiums in Europe and when you are younger you take that for granted as there are many more opportunities ahead of you.

“But as you get older you realise there are things you perhaps won’t experience again.”

Gianluigi Buffon’s record vs Celtic

Buffon played three times against the Hoops in his career and has a 100 per cent win record in the games he played.

Coincidentally, the one Celtic vs Juventus encounter Buffon was on the bench for was a 4-3 loss in 2001.

Buffon never did get to play in Glasgow for a third time after hanging up the gloves in 2023 following a return to Parma.
