WWE superstar CM Punk appears to be in Glasgow ahead of Saturday night’s big Clash At The Castle event at the Hydro – and he’s had his head turned by some Celtic gear.
The wrestler is not officially booked in a match at tonight’s ‘Premium Live Event’ which will be broadcast all over the world.
However, he has been embroiled in a rivalry with fellow WWE star Drew McIntyre for months. Rumours are rife that the Chicago favourite could involve himself in some way as the Scottish wrestler takes on Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship.
McIntyre is a massive Rangers fan and visited Ibrox earlier this week to be inducted into the Scottish Wrestling Hall of Fame, also appearing on the club’s social media channels.
It would be amusing then if Punk managed to bring a Celtic flavour to the ongoing feud. Well, TikTok channel Weekly Wrestling Rundown has posted a picture of the wrestler perusing some Bhoys attire in Glasgow this weekend. It already has thousands of views and fans on social media are speculating what could happen.
CM Punk has already been compared to Celtic
Last month, McIntyre tried to disparage Punk by comparing him to Celtic, telling The Daily Star: “What’s a team that just constantly has players that hurt themselves and get injured – Inverness Caledonian Thistle. I don’t know why they’re popping into my head. I’m trying to think of a team that had a random bit of glory a couple of times and live off of that. That would be Celtic, wouldn’t it?”
So, in storyline to get under McIntyre’s skin, it would make sense for Punk to appear in a Celtic top to ruin McIntyre’s big opportunity at the Hydro on Saturday night.
In the off-season, as we wait for the Bhoys to return to training and make some signings, it’s a bit of fun to track.
There are Celtic fans already working within the WWE. Earlier this year brothers Joe and Marcus Coffey helped The Rock prepare for the huge Wrestlemania 40 event and posed with the world-famous celebrity in a Bhoys top.
