Ange Postecoglou has delivered a brilliant rallying cry to his Celtic players, saying if they’re not ambitious, they won’t last at the club.

Ahead of a crucial Europa League clash against Bayer Leverkusen, Postecoglou was adamant about the hunger and desire he wants to see from his players. Especially in Europe, where Celtic still have a chance of progressing from Group G.

The Celtic manager, who’s brought a new tactical methodology and mindset to the side, didn’t mince his words about his aims and the motivation he requires from his players.

In something of a mission statement, the Bhoys boss said [Daily Record]:

“Well you’ve got no choice [but to be motivated].

“Unfortunately or fortunately, whatever way you want to put it, when you join this football club, that’s what you are signing up for. You are not just signing up to play for a club that has great standing and has great support. You are signing up to be just that; to be hungry for success.

“If you are not, you won’t last here. Not if you are a player, or a manager or a member of staff here.

“You have got to walk around here, whether you have been here for a couple of months or for 10 years, and approach every game as if we haven’t had success for a long time. That’s the demands and that’s how you stay on top of your game always.”

This is exactly what supporters want to hear from Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou

Make no mistake; nobody at Celtic will be allowed to coast on past successes. Especially after last season, and the dismal failure therein.

Celtic needed a manager with intense ambition and appetite to manage the club. With Ange Postecoglou, the Hoops have that in spades. If you think Postecoglou is going to leave anything to chance, and not be constantly demanding of his players, think again.

Ahead of a massive Europa League game, this is exactly what you want to hear. If Postecoglou said “they’re a better team, we’ll give it a go” then it would’ve been utterly depressing.

Instead, the manager is telling his players that if they aren’t out to win every single game, they’re in the wrong place.

It’s a dramatic turnaround from the start of 20-21. Neil Lennon was criticising his players, particularly ones he believed didn’t want to be there [Sky Sports].

That wasn’t a challenge from the manager so much as derision towards the players he was tasked with motivating.

The sea change at Celtic has been radical. And it’s showing on the pitch.
