Young Boys’ Celtic warning looks rather foolish after Champions League opponents’ weekend result

Celtic face Young Boys in a crucial Champions League fixture at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping for his third Champions League win of the season over the Swiss champions to all but guarantee a play-off place in UEFA’s elite competition.

The Celtic manager knows that if he backs up Celtic’s win over RB Leipzig with a win against Young Boys, then progression out of the group stage for the first time since 2013 is all but assured.

However, prior to their fixture against Winterthur at the weekend, new Young Boys coach, Giorgio Contini, appeared to send a subtle warning to the Hoops ahead of the visit to Celtic Park on Wednesday night by explaining how he has learned from the legendary Carlo Ancelotti and how he plans to face the Glasgow giants.

That warning now looks rather foolish after the Swiss club’s latest domestic result.

Young Boys’ domestic season continues to flounder ahead of Celtic game

Young Boys currently sit in ninth place in the Swiss Super League just ten points from bottom-placed Winterthur.

Their weekend game was against the bottom club at home where the defending champions had the opportunity to lift themselves up the league table and just six points from the top spot.

However, Young Boys struggled against the relegation-threatened Winterthur and played out a 0-0 draw against a team who have conceded 40 goals this season.

Young Boys managed 25 shots on goal with just seven on target as Conti’s goal-shy strikers failed to score against the worst defence in the league.

Young Boys’ Champions League form ahead of Celtic Park fixture

Celtic will be confident of beating Young Boys as Brendan Rodgers has brought the fear factor back to Celtic Park.

However, another reason the Hoops should be confident is that Young Boys are the worst team in the tournament currently and are leaking goals for fun:
