The J-League has published an official Reo Hatate highlight reel for Celtic supporters after the midfielder joined the club last week.
Hatate is one of three Japanese signings to arrive at the Bhoys this January, as hype builds over the direction of the Ange Postecoglou era.
The video, available for free on YouTube, shows off the many skills of Hatate in an attacking sense, with his creative assist-play and goalscoring ability on full display.
Although at one point spoken about as a left-back amongst Celtic supporters, it has become increasingly clear that Hatate will be deployed in a forward-thinking midfield role more akin to David Turnbull.
He has that box-to-box energy and technical ability that can make him a standout in the Celtic midfield. Certainly, that will be the hope of manager Ange Postecoglou.
Hatate made 77 appearances in total for Kawasaki Frontale, winning two league championships, a cup and a super cup. It’s impressive stuff as make his way to Europe for the next stage of his career.
Japanese football experts speak of Hatate very highly and there is real intrigue to see what he can do in the Scottish Premiership linking up with compatriots such as Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi.
Expected to join Celtic training over the next couple of weeks, we won’t have to wait too long to see him in action. But maybe after a few hundred more watches of this video.
