When it comes to the identity of the next permanent Celtic manager, there have been expected names linked with the job.

Current interim boss Neil Lennon, David Moyes, Rafa Benitez, Steve Clarke and even Jose Mourinho have all came under the spotlight.

However, there is one name that hasn’t been amongst the contenders, and he could be under consideration should the Celtic board decide to play a wild card.

That name is former Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac.

Key assistant for years

He might not be the most familiar name. But Buvac was a key assistant to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for many years.

Buvac worked with Klopp at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. He was there when Klopp became a legend for his exploits with Dortmund.

However, he took a break from Liverpool last season for undisclosed personal reasons, and his departure from the club was confirmed earlier this season.

Current status is unknown

It is not known if Buvac is ready to return to the game. However, if he is he could be a contender for the Celtic job.

Buvac and Klopp made a very good partnership, particularly when you look at the success they had at Dortmund.

Liverpool are still successful under Klopp. But you have to imagine that Buvac played a big part in Klopp’s earlier success.

Should Buvac be interested in a return to the game, Celtic should get in touch with him.
