By the time Celtic take to the pitch tomorrow against Aberdeen, it will be around 50,000 minutes since we last saw Ange Postecoglou’s side in competitive action.
The very nature of that fact highlights the extent to which I’ve been twiddling my thumbs over the past 35 days.
Sure the World Cup has been pretty enjoyable, and Sunday’s final between Argentina and France is a gripping one, but the real show in town takes place 24 hours earlier at Pittodrie.
This is a season like no other, with an immense gap between Celtic’s 15th and 16th Premiership fixtures making it seem like two campaigns rather than one.
Some may even struggle to remember much about our most recent league game: a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Ross County at a raucous Celtic Park.
Amid dodgy handball calls, Hatate brilliance, Jota fishing the ball out the net and Haksabanovic’s Jennifer Lopez moment, there was a real sense that day of Celtic being on the road to another title.
With a nine point lead, reduced to six by Rangers last night, Ange Postecoglou’s side can breathe a little. But not too much. Constant improvement is what the Aussie is after.
Tomorrow’s game is the first of 16 pencilled in over the coming 91 days. Progress in the cup competitions will create further fixtures.
It’s going to be frantic. But you won’t find too many Celtic supporters complaining about that.
