67 Hail Hail sends clear message to Celtic board after iconic title win on BBC Sportsound

Celtic may have wrapped up another league title, but that should not stop supporters asking serious questions about where the club is actually heading.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound after the title win, I argued that too much around Celtic still feels uncertain despite another league success.

Celtic still feel rudderless despite another title

Winning trophies matters. Celtic, or moreover, Martin O’Neill deserves credit for securing another championship and maintaining their dominance in Scotland.

How do Celtic fans get the board to listen to their concerns?

But success on the pitch cannot completely hide the growing feeling that there is no clearly communicated long-term direction from the club hierarchy.

As I said on Sportsound: “I think they need to be more transparent and more open about where they plan to take Celtic right now because I think looking at how they secured Wilfred Nancy as the next manager, how the last three or four transfers have been going, it just still seems rudderless.

“There doesn’t seem to be a direction. There doesn’t seem to be a kind of idea of what they want to do. So I think they need to communicate with the fans a lot better than they have been over the course of this season, or maybe over the course of the last two or three seasons.

“Let us know what their plan is to take Celtic forward. So that I think that’s probably the biggest message I would send.”

You can watch the message below:

Celtic supporters deserve more communication from the board

The key point is not that Celtic are failing on the park. Clearly they are not. But that is down to O’Neill, not the board.

The issue is that supporters still do not really know what the club’s long-term football strategy looks like. Questions around recruitment, planning and decision-making continue to surface because there has been very little clarity from above.

Fans are not demanding guarantees. They simply want a better understanding of where Celtic are trying to go next and how the club plans to evolve.

Another title should be celebrated. But it should also be a moment for Celtic’s leadership to properly explain the vision for what comes next.
